Hackney Council is looking for Senior/Environmental Protection Officers to investigate and manage noise and nuisance cases, enforce regulations, and prepare reports. The role sits within the Public Realm service, offering a permanent, full‑time position (Grade PO1‑PO4, 36 hours per week).

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and manage noise, lighting and smoke nuisances in the commercial sector from complaint to resolution, including potential court proceedings.
  • Prepare detailed reports and respond to Member and public enquiries.
  • Consult on Licensing and Planning applications, including Prior Consent s.61.
  • Enforce environmental protection legislation and maintain case records.
  • Develop innovative approaches to improve service delivery.

Qualifications & Experience

  • PO1 & PO2: Experience in environmental noise and nuisance investigations, enforcement and consultation on Licensing/Planning.
  • IOA Certificate of Competence in Environmental Noise Measurement desirable.
  • PO3: Significant experience and IOA Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control.
  • PO4: Extensive experience and an accredited academic qualification (e.g. MSc, BSc (Hons), Diploma) in Environmental Health or equivalent.
