Seasonal Outdoor Instructor / Tutor at Skern Lodge

Job Purpose
As the Seasonal Outdoor Instructor or Tutor, you play a key role as the first point of contact for visiting groups and will ensure they receive engaging, safe and enjoyable outdoor adventure experiences. You will lead adventurous activities with clients from a wide range of backgrounds at multiple locations on site and across North Devon. In addition to delivering activities, you will support clients’ needs by taking on evening and overnight duties and may act as Course Director for residential groups. This role averages around 43 hours per week and includes additional tasks that support the day-to-day running of the centre.
Key role responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Leading activities in a fun, safe and engaging way, adapting your delivery to client needs.
- Following risk assessments, operating procedures and training given to adhere to best practice.
- Ensure qualifications used for delivery are current and up to date.
- Be comfortable working alone as well as part of a team where required.
- Hold or work towards a first aid qualification and be comfortable administering first aid.
- Follow all Skern policies and procedures.
- Be able to talk confidently in front of groups of clients from various backgrounds and walks of life.
- Take pride in appearance and represent the Skern Lodge brand in a positive manner.
- Physically be able to provide the support that clients need on sessions to keep them safe.
- Be able to think on your feet, be adaptable and calm in a wide range of scenarios.
- Have an interest in the outdoor industry and be a good role model for the outdoors.
- Ideally have previous experience in the outdoor industry, and having qualifications linked to outdoor provision would be advantageous (PSL, D1+E and CPC, NVBLQ, RCI or CWI).
