The predicted salary is between 15.4 - 16.57 £ per hour.

Starting Salary: £29,644 progressing to £31,885 per annum (hourly rate: £15.40 - £16.57 pro rata for part time)

Hours: Variable – up to 37 hours per week (some evenings and weekends required)

About the Team

Situated in over 85 acres of grassland and woodland on the edge of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Hudnall Park provides residential and day visits to organised groups and families. Part of Hertfordshire’s Services for Young People, the Centre is highly regarded for its standards of excellence and professionalism in delivering high quality outdoor learning experiences. Hudnall Park is an inclusive provider, catering for a range of ages and abilities. The centre comprises several staff including site managers and project personnel, alongside instructors. The post holder will engage with other staff from the county council, children, young people and families daily. We are developing an ambitious strategy to increase activity at Hudnall Park with the intention of utilising the site all year round. This role is important to the success of that development.

About the Role

We are looking for outgoing, passionate people who enjoy working with children, young people and families to provide memorable and joyous outdoor educational and adventure experiences. Our instructors deliver safe, high quality, engaging outdoor education and adventure activities, ensuring that participants enjoy their time and leave with enduring memories. Successful applicants will spend most of their time delivering outdoor, outcome-based sessions to children, young people and families and will also be expected to assist in maintaining equipment and developing resources to support the delivery of activities. Working hours are typically between 08:30 and 17:00 Monday to Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends required. Hudnall Park is in a remote location, so applicants must have access to their own transport to and from work. There is no instructor accommodation on site.

About You

  • Understanding of how outdoor education can develop children’s and young people’s personal and social skills and belief in the value of outdoor learning
  • Current or recent experience in this type of role
  • Current or recent experience working with children and young people
  • Full driving licence and regular access to a vehicle
  • Good team player
  • Friendly, welcoming and positive attitude
  • Understanding of health & safety and risk
  • Ability to plan, develop and lead activities
  • Ability to adapt activities/delivery according to individual and group needs
  • Flexible and adaptable approach
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Experience of working with children and young people
  • Skills and/or experience in any of the activities offered by the centre will be an advantage: Practical conservation skills, Archery, Bushcraft, Climbing and traverse wall, Low ropes, Mountain-biking, Problem‑solving and team‑building activities, Orienteering or navigation, teaching or leading natural history and environmental activities.
  • Holds at least one of the following qualifications: Archery (GNAS/Archery GB), ERCA Low ropes, Mountain-biking (MIAS/MBLA L1), Forest School Leader (L3), Woodland Activity Leader (L2), Bushcraft Instructor (L2), Navigation (Lowland/Countryside Leader or BEL), First Aid (all candidates are required to have this, or must be willing to train towards it)
