Training Level 3 Outdoor Activity Instructor Apprenticeship Standard. We take your training seriously and want you to be successful in your role. Therefore, you will be trained to deliver as many activities as possible. This training will not only focus on your own personal skill development, but also in-house sign off and national governing body qualifications. The level of skill you leave us with will very much be personal to you and how much effort you put in and the progress you make.

  • First Aid Responder
  • Safeguarding Level 2
  • Paddle Sport Instructor
  • Climbing Wall Instructor Training
  • Archery Leader
  • Internal qualifications: Bushcraft, High Ropes, Zip Wire, Problem Solving, Low Ropes Course, Orienteering and more.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide instruction to Centre clients taking part in activities, including monitoring and reporting on such matters as are required to achieve the aims of the course and good safe practice.
  • To work for the centre’s needs in accordance with annualised hours.
  • To be fully aware of the differing needs of Centre users and to adopt appropriate teaching/supervisory methods.
  • Where appropriate to assist senior staff with the development of suitable initiatives and programmes to enhance the quality of course.
  • To undertake appropriate training, negotiated with the Head of Centre, to gain National Governing Body qualifications.
  • To assist with maintenance of outdoor activity equipment and all aspects of site maintenance.
  • Each instructor may be given a number of responsibility areas/teaching resources to maintain.
  • To assist with the preparation of general teaching resources, worksheets and review material and to ensure the operational availability of a number of specific responsibility areas/teaching resources as allocated to individual staff.

Experience working with young people. A team work ethic and the ability to work with others. A mature approach to group leadership out of doors. The ability to be approachable yet firm with young people and adults in their care. An active interest in Outdoor and Adventurous Activities for their own personal development. The ability to actively instruct group members and undertake supervision at all times.

Essential Attributes:

  • It is essential that the post holder has a willingness to undertake a very wide range of duties apart from instructing groups, including for example: overnight duties, estate management and maintaining equipment.
  • The ability to work flexibly including on occasion unsocial hours and must be 18 years of age by Easter 2027 due to independently working with children.

Interest in a range of different outdoor activities, including:

  • Kayaking
  • Climbing
  • Hill Walking

Compensation:

Weekly/Annual wage: 30 hrs per week – £8.00 per hour (£12,514 per annum). Evening and weekend work is required.

Future Prospects:

Continued employment is not guaranteed but moving apprentices forward within the company is often part of our dynamic staffing model.

Qualifications:

Desirable: 19 years and over Functional skills 2 Maths and English.

Essential: 18 years and under require Functional skills 2 Maths and English.
