Relational. Reflective. Rooted in faith. Create outdoor experiences where young people encounter the hope and truth of Jesus.

Who we are: Scripture Union Scotland is a national charity, with around 140 staff and over 2,500 volunteers. Our vision is to see every child and young person of Scotland exploring the Bible and responding to the significance of Jesus.

At Alltnacriche, we pursue that vision through authentic, relational experiences in the outdoors - and we’re now building something new. We’re establishing a dedicated strand of work to support children and young people who face additional support needs, trauma, or barriers to engagement, alongside our existing residential programme. This work is already making a difference, and we’re seeking someone to help deliver it with consistency and care, and to grow in the role as it develops. We’re also developing dedicated indoor facilities to support this work year-round, creating a welcoming base for participants and a platform for future growth.

Be part of an intentional community: Living on site and as part of an intentional community, you’ll instruct across Alltnacriche’s wider outdoor programme for schools, youth groups, and visiting organisations, while also designing and delivering dedicated sessions for young people with additional support needs. You’ll help young people build emotional regulation, social connection, and confidence - and you’ll bring inclusive, relational practice into every setting you work in. Over time, you’ll also help shape new activities, strengthen inclusive practice within the team, and build relationships with the schools and partners we serve. You’ll join a team that reflects together, prays together, and shares a deep commitment to seeing young people encounter Jesus through meaningful experiences and trusted relationships. The faith dimension of this work isn’t peripheral - it’s the reason we do it.

Purpose: This post exists to deliver and develop outdoor learning initiatives that express SU Scotland’s vision, particularly among children and young people with diverse support needs — including those with additional support needs (ASN), experiences of trauma, or social marginalisation. The initial focus will be on delivering the Growing Together Programme — a structured outdoor intervention that helps children build emotional regulation, social connection, and confidence through relational, values-led practice.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A genuine desire to share the hope of Jesus with children and young people through relationship and experience
  • A passion for inclusion, relationship, and outdoor learning
  • Experience working with children and young people with ASN, trauma, or behaviour-related needs
  • The skills and qualifications to deliver our outdoor programme
  • The humility, character, and curiosity to grow in leadership over time

For this post, it is important that you are committed to SU Scotland’s ethos, working principles and vision and are able to demonstrate this through your commitment and motivation. It is also an Occupational Requirement (Equality Act - part 1, schedule 9), that the post-holder is a committed Christian. The successful applicant will be required to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Scheme, and the appointment will be subject to a satisfactory PVG Scheme Disclosure.

Ongoing Professional Development: We’ll invest in the right person through opportunities including accredited trauma-informed training, a Wilderness Ministry course in Austria, and full certification in Reality Therapy, an approach that supports young people in taking ownership of their choices and building healthier relationships. All training is considered through a Biblical lens, with the ultimate aim of equipping you to create spaces where young people can encounter and respond to the Christian faith. We’re also open to other pathways that support your growth in this role.

Please take a moment to read SU Scotland's Basis of Faith and Ethos statement. We ask all candidates to confirm their willingness to uphold the beliefs and practices contained in these documents as part of the application form.
