The Role

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a full-time Adventure Sport Coordinator within Young Tower Hamlets (YTH). The role will lead on the development and delivery of the team’s adventure learning programme with schools, community groups, community events and via an open-access offer to young people.

The Sport & Adventure Learning Team within YTH offers a range of exciting, engaging adventure learning activities to young people in Tower Hamlets including canoeing, kayaking, indoor rock climbing, mountain biking, inclusive cycling, BMX, skateboarding, skating, artificial caving and archery. The team also manages the borough\’s Duke of Edinburgh\’s Award (DofE) programme, which includes the management and delivery of DofE Expeditions.

In this dynamic role the Adventure Sport Coordinator will:

  • Manage and lead a team of up to seven Adventure Sport Coaches.
  • To support the Group Manager for Sport & Adventure Learning with development and lead on the delivery of an engaging adventure learning framework/programme for young people. Including residentials, expeditions, awards and accredited opportunities for young people.
  • Support the Adventure Sport Coordinator and team with coordination and delivery of the wider Adventure Learning Programme.
  • Deliver high-quality outdoor activity and sport sessions and programmes to the local community via day-time sessions with schools, local community groups and youth groups, community events and open-access youth sessions.
  • Support with the full delivery and quality assurance of national accredited programmes, such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and Sports Leaders Awards.
  • Assist the Group Manager and Adventure Sport Coordinator in the management of the Team’s works programme and ensure appropriate and safe standards of work and activity delivery are maintained.
  • Complete appropriate planning, monitoring, risk management and evaluation of sessions, off-site visits and expeditions.

Role Requirements

  • National Governing Body qualified, in one or more adventurous activities.
  • Holds an appropriate Outdoor First Aid qualification or work towards achieving within 6 months of appointment.
  • Experience of working with young people in an inner-city environment.
  • Experience of management
