We are currently recruiting a

Regulatory Governance Lead for a Permanent contract.

This role is hybrid, both working from home and in our Edinburgh hub. You would be expected to be in the hub 2-4 times per month, and travel to London up to 6 times per year.

We encourage our colleagues to work flexibly between home and the hub to suit their needs and preferences, in line with our hybrid working policy.

Colleagues are able to work their hours flexibly, in line with core business hours and requirements. We also offer formalised flexible working agreements.

The starting salary is £42,655 per annum.

Purpose of the job

The role will lead the effective operation of the IFo A’s regulatory governance arrangements.

This includes support of the Regulatory Board, Disciplinary Committee and other boards/committees with a regulatory role.

  • Lead the governance support for the IFo A’s regulatory boards, committees, and decision making panels.
  • Oversee agenda planning, papers, minutes, and action tracking, ensuring material is accurate, balanced, and procedurally sound.
  • Ensure consistency of governance practice across different regulatory boards and committees.
  • Support appointments/reappointments and succession planning in line with independent processes.
  • Support the Regulatory Board Chair with managing performance including effectiveness surveys/reviews.
  • Lead on induction for new members of regulatory boards/committees and on organising regular training on relevant issues.
  • Governance improvement and development
  • Lead or contribute to projects to strengthen regulatory governance arrangements, including procedural reviews or changes to committee structures.
  • Ensure policies and procedures relating to regulatory governance are up to date and reflect best practice.
  • Advice and assurance
  • Act as a primary source of governance advice on processes, decision making powers, and committee/board matters that relate to the IFo A’s regulatory role.
  • Provide governance and procedural advice to regulatory board/committee Chairs and members.
  • Assist in preparing regulatory governance reporting for senior leadership, IFo A Board, Council and external oversight body.

  • Responsible for ensuring regulatory boards and committees follow appropriate processes and procedures and for escalating any issues.
  • Responsible for ensuring minutes accurate and appropriate redactions applied before publication.

Essential

  • Knowledge and experience
  • Experience in a governance or regulatory secretariat role, ideally within a regulator, professional body, or public organisation.
  • Understanding of regulatory governance, decision making frameworks, and public law principles (e. g. fairness, proportionality, transparency).
  • Ability to provide clear, confident governance advice to senior decision makers.
  • Excellent drafting skills, particularly minutes, governance advice, and procedural documents.
  • High levels of integrity, sound judgement, and discretion.

Desirable

  • An understanding of actuaries and the actuarial profession
  • Experience contributing to regulatory reform or governance projects
