A very well established education institution and a long-standing client of Instinct's is seeking a Head of Digital Learning to lead the strategic development and delivery of its digital learning ecosystem. This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for digital pedagogy, learning technologies, service delivery, and team leadership, working closely with academic and professional services colleagues.
The Role:
This is an exciting and rare opportunity where you will lead on defining and delivering a digital learning roadmap aligned to institutional strategy. You will lead a multidisciplinary team and drive the effective use of technology to enhance teaching, learning, and the student and staff experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a digital learning strategy and roadmap aligned with organisational priorities
- Lead digital education and technology-enhanced learning initiatives across the institution
- Oversee front-line digital learning support, including helpdesk services, training, webinars, and workshops
- Partner with academic teams to embed digital pedagogy and innovative teaching practices into curricula
- Lead the design, piloting, evaluation, and continuous improvement of digital learning platforms and tools
- Ensure digital learning systems meet accessibility, security, and compliance requirements
- Manage multiple strategic projects, including planning, risk, budget, and delivery
- Use data, analytics, and stakeholder feedback to evaluate impact and improve user experience
- Line manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing Digital Learning team
- Collaborate closely with IT and other professional services to ensure system integration and effective processes
- Represent the organisation internally and externally, including supplier management and sector networks
About You:
- You will be a recognised digital learning leader with strong technical, pedagogical, and people leadership experience, ideally gained within higher education or a complex learning environment.
- Postgraduate-level qualification in digital learning, education, or equivalent experience
- Teaching and learning qualification (e.g. HEA/PGCert/CMALT or similar)
- Strong knowledge of digital learning platforms (VLEs such as Moodle or equivalent, online assessment, lecture capture, e-portfolios, similarity checking tools)
- Deep understanding of digital pedagogy and academic processes (assessment, feedback, learner journeys)
- Proven experience leading digital learning or TEL projects and managing change
- Experience using data and learning analytics to inform decision-making and service improvement
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong people management experience, including coaching and performance management
- Senior professional recognition (e.g. SFHEA or equivalent)
- Knowledge of accessibility, data protection, copyright, and IP
- Experience delivering staff and student development programmes
- Evidence of horizon scanning and sector engagement in digital learning
