We’re looking for a Flutter Tech Lead to join a product engineering team building secure, scalable applications across mobile (iOS & Android) and web. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll help shape the technical direction of the platform while remaining close to the code. You'll be responsible for driving engineering standards, ensuring quality and security, and supporting the delivery of high-quality customer-facing applications. You'll work as part of an agile team, collaborating closely with engineers, product stakeholders and delivery teams to build, optimise and evolve a modern cross-platform platform.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the design and development of cross-platform applications using Flutter and Dart
- Drive technical architecture decisions and establish engineering best practices
- Mentor and support developers across the team, promoting quality and continuous improvement
- Implement and maintain robust state management approaches using technologies such as BLoC, Cubit or Redux
- Manage and optimise large-scale codebases, shared libraries and monorepo-based development environments
- Ensure security best practices are embedded throughout the application lifecycle, including authentication, certificate pinning and device attestation
- Design and maintain comprehensive automated testing strategies across unit, component and integration testing
- Monitor and improve test coverage and quality standards across the platform
- Profile, troubleshoot and optimise application performance across mobile and web environments
- Own and improve CI/CD pipelines, preferably using GitHub Actions
- Identify and prioritise technical debt while balancing ongoing feature delivery
- Contribute to planning, architecture discussions and continuous improvement activities across the team
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years' software engineering experience with significant experience building mobile applications
- Strong commercial experience developing cross-platform applications using Flutter and Dart
- Previous experience in a technical lead or senior engineering role
- Deep understanding of reactive state management patterns including BLoC, Cubit or Redux
- Experience working with monorepos and managing shared dependencies across multiple applications
- Strong understanding of mobile and web security principles
- Proven experience implementing automated testing frameworks and quality strategies
- Strong knowledge of performance profiling, troubleshooting and optimisation techniques
- Experience designing and supporting CI/CD pipelines
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a pragmatic approach to delivery
- Strong communication skills and experience working closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Nice to Have
- Experience with React Native or Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP)
- Experience working on enterprise-scale or consumer-facing mobile platforms
- Experience with cloud-native architectures and services
- Exposure to regulated or security-sensitive environments
- Experience leading distributed teams
- Familiarity with modern observability and monitoring tooling
Contract Details
- Start Date: ASAP
- Duration: 6 months, with potential for extension
- Location: Birmingham
- Working Pattern: Hybrid, with 2 days per week onsite at the client's Birmingham office.
- Expenses: Reasonable travel and accommodation expenses for onsite attendance will be covered.
