Chemical Information Specialist
Location: Stone, Staffordshire Hybrid working, 2 days a week in our Stone Office)
Status: Permanent, Full Time

Why are we hiring a Chemical Information Specialist? The Chemical Information Specialist takes ownership of scientific data and oversees the strategic use, curation, and governance of data for Leadscope, along with interaction and support to the wider In Silico and Data Insights group as needed. This individual is adept at chemical structure handling, chemical representation, nomenclature, registration, and chemical transformation while also having knowledge of toxicology study types.

What are you responsible for?
• Works with the scientific team to identify new sources of data and creates pipelines/processes for extracting insights through cheminformatics methodologies
• Follows and creates innovative procedures to validate database entries of chemical structures and toxicological data, to ensure reliable entries
• Develops innovative strategies for extracting knowledge from proprietary and siloed databases
• Uses expertise in chemistry, toxicology, data science and informatics to support product development
• Collaborates with internal teams as well as external stakeholders (regulators, industry groups) to understand evolving data needs. Ideates, validates and implements solutions.
• Leads the development of innovative approaches to increase efficiency and accuracy of data collection and curation
• Works with stakeholders to assist with and troubleshoot data-related technical issues
• Works across product teams to identify and capitalize on data requirement synergistic opportunities between product lines
• Keep up with industry trends and best practices, advising senior management on new and improved data engineering strategies that will drive departmental performance leading to overall improvement.
• Adherence to the Company\’s Quality Management System to ensure that all work is handled Securely, Professionally and Diligently.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

• Knowledge of chemical structure representation is required
• A Bachelor\’s degree in Chemistry or a related field with over 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master\’s degree with at least 2 years of experience, is required, coupled with experience building databases with chemical structures mapped to toxicological data
• Demonstrated knowledge of tautomeric forms, stereoisomerism, structure activity form conversion and other structural transformations is required.
• Knowledge of toxicology study types is a major advantage
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks is a plus
• Experience developing predictive models is a plus
• Knowledge of ToxML is a plus
