Hendy JLR Southampton Service Technician Apprenticeship

JLR is the UK's largest automotive manufacturer, built around two iconic British car brands: Land Rover and Jaguar. The company employs almost 38,000 people globally and supports around 275,000 more through our retailers, suppliers, and local businesses.

Service Technicians/Mechanics service and repair light vehicles such as cars up to 3.5 tonnes. They are trained in all areas of vehicle mechanics and electronics, from engine and exhaust systems to air conditioning and security features. The duties may include:

• Servicing vehicles – carrying out checks and maintenance according to the manufacturers’ guidelines.
• Repairing and replacing faulty parts and components.
• Advising the Service Receptionists about required repairs.
• Producing time estimates.
• Maintaining repair and service records.

Qualifications required

Minimum entry requirements:

• GCSE grades 9 – 4 (A – C) or equivalent in English, Maths and two other subjects.
• In Scotland, applicants must have or be predicted to achieve Scottish National 5 Grades A - C or above in English, Maths and either a Science or Technical subject.

‘Equivalent’ grades include:

• BTEC first diplomas and certificates
• OCR Nationals
• Key Skills Level 2 NVQs
• Essential Skills (Wales)
• Functional Skills Level 2
• Core Skills (Scotland)

We accept predicted grades and conditional offers can be made based on predicted grades.

We're not looking for the finished article; rather we want to identify those people that are ambitious and demonstrate a willingness to learn, who are excited by the prospect of working with our fantastic, technologically advanced vehicles and really engage in the recruitment process. English and Maths guidance from the government changed on 11th February 2025. This employer wishes to support upskilling in both English and Maths but understands that some applicants aged 19+ may not have the advertised entry grades. These are desired but not essential for success – applications specifically for candidates aged 19+ who have achieved a grade 3/D will be reviewed on a case‑by‑case basis.
