Service Technicians/Mechanics service and repair light vehicles such as cars up to 3.5 tonnes. They are trained in all areas of vehicle mechanics and electronics, from engine and exhaust systems to air conditioning and security features. The duties may include:
- Servicing vehicles – carrying out checks and maintenance according to the manufacturers’ guidelines.
- Repairing and replacing faulty parts and components.
- Advising the Service Receptionists about required repairs.
- Producing time estimates.
- Maintaining repair and service records.
Please note, the role varies slightly by employer based upon the specific needs within the location. We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking individual to join our team and embark on a long-term career, with excellent earning and progression opportunities once you complete your apprenticeship.
Qualifications required
Minimum entry requirements:
- GCSE grades 9 – 4 (A – C) or equivalent in English, Maths and two other subjects.
- In Scotland, applicants must have or be predicted to achieve Scottish National 5 Grades A - C or above in English, Maths and either a Science or Technical subject.
‘Equivalent’ grades include:
- BTEC first diplomas and certificates
- OCR Nationals
- Key Skills Level 2 NVQs
- Essential Skills (Wales)
- Functional Skills Level 2
- Core Skills (Scotland)

This employer wishes to support upskilling in both English and Maths but understands that some applicants aged 19+ may not have the advertised entry grades.
