Early Years Apprentice in Scarborough

Programme duration 15 months, 3 months end of point assessment. Programme name Level 3 - Early Years Educator. Little Footsteps Nursery was established in 2004, located in the heart of Scarborough town centre, easily accessible by public transport. We are a close‑knit 60‑place nursery and provide children with endless learning opportunities, sharing the love and importance of the natural world to create life‑long memories that help them achieve the best possible outcomes and prepare for future success.

Little Footsteps Nursery is looking for a Level 3 Early Years Apprentice to join our team, learning on‑the‑job skills while working with children. We want someone who enjoys spending time with a variety of aged children and is willing to learn the entire job role. Some of the duties you will undertake will include:

• Supervising children’s play and learning activities
• Supporting children’s hygiene routines
• Completing learning and development files to a high standard
• Assisting at mealtimes and with feeding
• Contributing to planned programmes of activities
• Liaising with parents and carers
• Following health and safety at all times
• Working as part of a team to set‑up the rooms, clear down at the end of the day, and complete cleaning duties

To become an apprentice you must be 16 or over and not already be in full‑time education. As an apprentice you will complete a Level 3 Early Years Apprenticeship Standard with Inspiro Learning. You can start whether you’re starting your career, looking for a change, or up‑skilling in your current job, even if you already have a degree. As an apprentice you will have regular one‑to‑one sessions with a dedicated trainer (remotely or via workplace visits), learn and train for a specific job, get paid and receive holiday leave, gain hands‑on experience, study for at least 20 % of working hours, complete assessments during and at the end of the apprenticeship, and follow a career path with future potential.

An apprenticeship is a real job where you learn, gain experience and get paid; you’re an employee with a contract of employment and holiday leave. By the end you will have the skills and knowledge needed for your chosen career. At the end of the apprenticeship, you will achieve the equivalent of an A‑level. The end‑point assessment is independent and tests the skills and knowledge of the apprentice to ensure full competence. Each apprentice will be supported through a structured programme of teaching, e‑learning, face‑to‑face training and workplace mentoring. The apprenticeship will include functional skills in maths and English. After at least 12 months, if the employer and Inspiro Learning regional trainer confirm you have met all requirements, you will be put through the end‑point assessment.

Apprenticeship standards are aimed at developing skills within the chosen career route, each standard has set knowledge, skills and behaviours required to succeed in the job role. Once the apprenticeship has been completed and passed, this could lead to a permanent position in the nursery. Further training is also available and encouraged to support professional development.

The potential candidate needs to have an interest in children’s learning and development. You will be able to communicate well with parents and colleagues. You will show an understanding of what children enjoy doing to learn and develop and be able to engage with young children easily whilst maintaining a safe environment. It is necessary to record observations and assessments, therefore satisfactory literacy skills are desirable. Be highly motivated and willing to take direction from the childcare team.

Qualifications required: GCSE grades 9 to 4, grade‑A, - C preferred. Be motivated, punctual always, good communicator and be able to work in a team. Can use their own initiative. Have a positive approach to learning. Appreciate and respect diversity.
