Glenshane Veterinary Clinic is seeking an experienced Large Animal or Mixed Veterinary Surgeon to join our established, friendly team in Northern Ireland. This is an opportunity for a vet who genuinely enjoys farm work and wants to practice it well – with the time, tools and team support to do the job properly. While the role has a strong farm animal focus, there is flexibility for those who enjoy keeping some companion animal work in their week. Whether you’re looking for a predominantly farm role or a true mixed position, we’re open to shaping the job around the right person. This role is not suitable for new graduates.
We’re looking for a vet who is confident working independently on farm, enjoys building long‑term client relationships, and takes pride in practical, hands‑on veterinary work.
The Practice – Established, Well Equipped and Genuinely Supportive
Glenshane Vets is a three‑branch mixed practice based at the foot of the Sperrin Mountains, serving a loyal farming community with a strong mix of beef, sheep and dairy clients. Our clients range from large commercial units to smaller family‑run farms, making the work varied, interesting and rewarding. You’ll be supported by an experienced team of vets, nurses and support staff who value teamwork, communication and a realistic approach to workload. We have invested in equipment that allows our vets to work efficiently and confidently, including EasyScan, cattle crush and stocks, small ruminant operating table, IDEXX lab station, digital X‑ray, small animal ultrasound, and modern practice management systems. A practice vehicle is provided, and we have a relocation allowance available to help anyone move to the area.
The Role – Hands‑On, Varied and Community‑Focused
This is a client‑facing farm vet role where you’ll be out on the road, managing routine and emergency farm work, herd health support and advisory services. You’ll have the autonomy to manage your own cases while always having experienced colleagues to lean on when needed. For vets who wish to maintain some companion animal involvement, the role can include small animal consults and procedures within the clinics. The balance between farm and small animal work can be tailored depending on your experience and interests. A full, valid UK driving licence is essential, as daily travel between farms and clinic sites is a core part of the role.
Rota & Work‑Life Balance
The standard rota is designed to be fair and sustainable. You’ll work a 40‑hour week, with 1 night on call per week and 1 weekend in 4, followed by time off in lieu. We are open to full‑time or part‑time arrangements, and we’re happy to have an open conversation about what works best for you.
Who We’re Looking For

- Holds a valid driving licence for the UK (Northern Ireland)
- Is looking for a long‑term role within a supportive, down‑to‑earth team
