Here at McMurty & Harding Vets, Ashbourne, we’re on the lookout for a Student Veterinary Nurse to join our established team on a temporary basis to cover a 36 month fixed term contract. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established team.

Following training and under supervision, responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring anaesthesia
  • Assisting with diagnostic imaging and laboratory procedures
  • Maintaining tubes and drains
  • Supporting aseptic theatre practice
  • Safely performing a range of clinical nursing tasks, including sample collection, medication administration, and patient care

How You’ll Make a Difference:

As a Student Veterinary Nurse, you will be supported and encouraged to develop both your clinical and non-clinical skills while working towards qualification as a Registered Veterinary Nurse. You’ll be an integral part of the practice team, supporting patient care under the guidance of Veterinary Surgeons and Registered Veterinary Nurses. You’ll gain hands-on experience across a range of nursing duties while progressing through your training programme and developing confidence in your day-to-day practice.

Working Pattern:

This is a full time position, working 37.5 hours per week Rota based, Monday - Friday.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To undertake training under the RCVS - refer to the ‘RCVS Handbook’ which outlines the requirements for the Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing.
  • Maintain a high standard of inpatient care.
  • Assist with surgical procedures.
  • Support the partners with new initiatives.
  • Adhere to all SOP’s.
  • Communicate with clients effectively and maintain a high professional standard of customer service and care.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with all members of the practice.
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the building.
  • Fulfil the obligations of the rota, sick cover/on call rota & bank holiday cover.
  • Carry out any reasonable requests made by the Partners, Associate Vets or other members of the management team.
