At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we’re trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners. Here at Overdale we are looking for a friendly and approachable Veterinary Receptionist to join our team on a part-time basis, fixed term contract for 12 months.
We’re looking for someone with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and strong organisational abilities with keen attention to detail. The ideal candidate should be able to multitask and prioritise effectively in a fast‑paced environment. Proficiency in using IT systems for scheduling and record-keeping is important. While experience in a veterinary setting is preferred, it is not essential. Above all we are looking for someone who is welcoming, proactive and enthusiastic.
Practice Highlights
Overdale is a long‑standing practice located in the heart of Buxton, providing services to the town and the surrounding areas, including the Hope Valley where we have a small branch. To the south of Buxton our catchment area overlaps with our sister practice McMurtry and Harding, who have branches in Ashbourne and Wirksworth. We are a mixed practice providing care, advice and treatment for all animals great and small.
How You’ll Make a Difference
As a Receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for clients, playing a key role in delivering a welcoming, professional and compassionate experience at every interaction. You’ll support the smooth running of the practice by managing appointments, handling enquiries, supporting client communications and working closely with clinical and non‑clinical colleagues to ensure a positive client and patient journey.
Working Pattern
Part‑time working 23 hours per week Monday (8:30am - 7:00pm), Tuesday (8:00am - 5:00pm), Wednesday every other week (8:30am - 5:30pm) 1 in 4 Saturdays (8:00am - 2:00pm)
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be proactive, detail‑oriented, and committed to maintaining high professional standards. Duties include managing the appointment diary, handling client queries, processing invoices and payments, maintaining debt control, completing reminder and follow‑up calls, dispensing prescriptions, updating client records, supporting marketing initiatives, and ensuring the reception area remains clean and well‑stocked. You will also assist with stock control, insurance documentation, daily administrative tasks, and comply with all practice policies and Health & Safety regulations. A positive attitude, strong organisational skills, and a commitment to personal development are essential to contribute to the continued success and profitability of the practice.
You Might Be a Great Fit If…
- Excellent communication skills and a professional, welcoming manner
- Experience in a customer‑facing role, with a strong focus on service and attention to detail
- The ability to manage multiple tasks effectively in a busy environment
- A collaborative approach and willingness to support colleagues
