Avon Lodge Vets is seeking a Practice Manager to join us on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract, leading the operational and administrative functions across our Wells Road and Bishopsworth practices in Bristol.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive leader who enjoys supporting people, improving processes and enabling outstanding patient and client care.

Working closely with the Director of Practice & Clinical Services, Head Nurse and Head Receptionist, you'll play a key role in ensuring the smooth day‑to‑day running of the practice while helping to create a positive, efficient and collaborative environment for colleagues and clients alike.

How You’ll Make a Difference

As Practice Manager, you will lead the non‑clinical operations of the practice, working closely with clinical leadership to ensure efficient day‑to‑day running, strong team performance and an outstanding client experience.

You’ll be responsible for operational delivery, people management and compliance, while supporting the practice to achieve its performance, quality and service objectives.

This role plays a key part in creating a positive culture and enabling clinical teams to deliver excellent care.

  • Working Pattern
  • 40 hours per week across 4 or 5 days
  • Part‑time applications will also be considered

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day‑to‑day administration and operational management of the practice
  • Manage payroll processes
  • Support stock management and ordering
  • Provide day‑to‑day support to the reception team
  • Manage staff rotas, annual leave planning and workforce scheduling to ensure appropriate practice cover
  • Coordinate recruitment activities, including advertising vacancies, arranging interviews, onboarding and induction
  • Support employee engagement, performance management and staff development initiatives
  • Work collaboratively to achieve practice objectives and maintain high standards of service
  • Monitor key performance indicators and support the achievement of business goals
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, Health & Safety requirements and RCVS Practice Standards
  • Handle client feedback and support the resolution of complaints

  • Proven management experience, ideally within healthcare, veterinary or other service‑led environments
  • Strong people management skills, including performance management and team development
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Confidence handling complaints, change and complex situations professionally
