Are you an electrical engineer graduate with a passion and deep understanding of Power Systems? This role will start as a 6-month paid internship with a view to going permanent upon a successful trial.
About the Client
Our client is an engineering firm that focuses on the design, consultation, and implementation of high-voltage direct current systems, which are crucial for modern, efficient power transmission. They support the integration of renewable energy into power grids, offering expertise across the entire lifecycle of power electronics projects. They are now seeking a Junior Power Systems Engineer. Our client is located in Staffordshire, but they do offer hybrid flexible working patterns.
Skills & Requirements:
- It is a must to understand Electricity, Electromagnetism, and an introduction to the Electric Power Industry.
- We need engineers who can simulate the physics in Matlab, PSCAD, Power Factory digsilent.
Core Technical Tasks
- Power System Modelling: Creating digital representations of electrical networks in Matlab, PSCAD, Power Factory, PSS/E to simulate real-world behavior and plan future infrastructure.
- Grid code Compliance study: Conducting Steady state and transient stability studies.
- Renewable Integration: Assessing how new technologies, such as solar parks, or battery storage, and DC distribution networks.
Administrative & Professional Duties
- Technical Documentation: Writing detailed reports on system studies, documenting work results.
- Project Management: Managing personal workloads, tracking deadlines, and estimating costs and timescales for specific project components.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Liaising with senior engineers, clients, and contractors to communicate technical designs and project status.
Common Software Tools
- Modelling & Analysis: DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSS/E, PSCAD, and MATLAB/Simulink.
- Programming: Python or SQL for data analysis and automation within power systems.
- General Engineering: AutoCAD for 2D/3D design and standard Microsoft Office for reporting.
