We are looking for a Bid Team Manager to join our successful Marketing team. This role is home based with occasional travel to offices required.
Role and Responsibilities
As a growing and ambitious business, we are seeking a Bid Team Manager who is responsible for leading and developing a team of bid writers to deliver high-quality, compliant, and compelling bid/tender responses. This role will drive new business and support client renewals through formal tender submissions (RFI, PQQ, RFP, RFQ, ITT), sales, proposals, and client contracts. The role combines people management, resource planning, quality assurance, and process improvement to support the organisation's business growth objectives.
- Lead and manage a team of bid professionals, taking ownership of the end-to-end bid process
- Resource planning and workload allocation
- Risk tracking and management throughout the bid process
- Opportunity identification (including via tender portals) and liaising with account teams to support the growth of existing customers
- Work with opportunity owners to develop a clear win strategy for each bid and ensure win themes are clear and compelling
- Lead sessions with the bid team (made up of sales and operational personnel) members to create and manage the bid structure, content and final response
- Own the internal governance process and agree sign off from senior management ahead of bid submission
- Proactively develop and manage a network of subject matter experts
- Co-ordinate the delivery of completed written responses against agreed deadlines, escalating issues as required
- Review responses from a variety of stakeholders, typically involving contributions from sales, marketing, technical / product teams, finance, legal and operational
- Ensure on-time submission of compliant and commercially sound bids
- Present all new bid content to the knowledgebase manager for potential re-use
- Manage post submission clarification, commercial and negotiation process
- Drive continuous improvement through post-bid reviews, both internally and with customers
- Support achievement of business growth targets through successful bid submissions
- Report on Bid MI including win/loss rate and monitor and improve bid win rates and pipeline conversion metrics
- Read and comply with the company Health & Safety Policy; taking reasonable care for the Health & Safety of themselves and others; co-operate with managers and other employees in fulfilling our objectives and statutory duties.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
Essential:
- Minimum 5 years bid management experience
- Experience developing bid strategies and win themes
- Demonstrable experience improving bid processes and win rates
- Strong commercial awareness with experience supporting pricing strategies and commercially competitive pricing submissions
- Line Management experience
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage and influence colleagues at all levels of the organisation
- Strong time management / prioritisation skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent standard of spoken and written English
- Strategic thinker who can understand complex issues and come up with solutions
- Can manage multiple, on-going opportunities to challenging deadlines
Desirable:
- Educated to a degree level or equivalent professional experience
- Qualifications relevant to the position
- Experience in working on service-based bids, ideally within utilities/energy sector
- Knowledge of working with public sector tenders, framework agreements, or regulated procurement processes
