As a Wellbeing Assistant / Gym Instructor at Widmore Park in Sonning Common, you will play an important role supporting residents to stay active, healthy, and socially connected within a welcoming village environment. You will help deliver engaging wellbeing activities, support safe and effective use of the gym facilities, and encourage residents to enjoy an active and independent lifestyle. As a Wellbeing Assistant / Gym Instructor, you will report to the Community and Wellbeing Manager, working closely with them to support community activities, events, and resident wellbeing initiatives across the village.
Gym & Wellbeing
- Managing the day-to-day operation of the gym and wellbeing facilities, ensuring opening and closing procedures are followed.
- Checking, documenting, and maintaining the safety and condition of all gym equipment.
- Providing fitness assessments, consultations, inductions, and guidance on healthy lifestyles.
- Setting up, supporting, and running gym classes; delivering classes where qualified (instructor experience desirable).
- Supporting swimming pool maintenance, with full training provided.
Facilities & Cleaning
- Taking responsibility for the cleanliness and presentation of the gym, swimming pool, sauna, steam room, and changing areas.
- Carrying out regular cleaning tasks to ensure facilities remain hygienic, safe, and welcoming.
Marketing & Community Engagement
- Promoting gym memberships, wellbeing programmes, and fitness classes to residents and visitors.
- Supporting the development and delivery of marketing initiatives for the health and well-being facilities.
- Being actively involved in village social activities, events, and promotions.
- Assisting with the planning, organisation, and smooth delivery of community wellbeing events.
Health & Safety
- Carrying out regular pool, steam room, and water hygiene checks and accurately recording results.
- Removing faulty or unsafe equipment from use and reporting issues promptly.
- Ensuring full compliance with pool, gym, steam room, and communal area policies and procedures.
- Maintaining a strong awareness of health, safety, and well-being standards across all facilities.
Key Requirements
- A recognised fitness instructor or coaching qualification, ideally to Level 3, to support and deliver group exercise classes.
- Experience working with a diverse customer base, ideally including people aged 55 and over.
- A good working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, particularly within a gym, pool, or wellbeing environment.
- Willingness to undertake additional training, including pool maintenance and water hygiene.
- A flexible approach to working hours, responding to the evolving needs of the village and its residents.
- A friendly, approachable manner with strong communication skills and a genuine passion for wellbeing and community engagement.
