Role summary
We are looking for a Test Automation Lead to drive the design, delivery and continuous improvement of automated testing across a technology change portfolio. This role is suited to someone who combines strong hands-on automation engineering experience with the ability to define standards, guide other engineers and work closely with technical and business stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the test automation strategy, standards and best practices
- Design, build and improve automated test frameworks
- Create and execute automated UI and API tests
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and lead, mentor and support automation engineers
- Work closely with developers, product teams & stakeholders to align testing with delivery requirements
- Manage automation activity across project scope, timelines and priorities
- Identify risks, issues and blockers, escalating where required
- Report on test progress, coverage, outcomes and quality metrics
- Drive continuous improvement across test processes, tooling and automation practices
Essential skills and experience
- Proven experience designing and implementing test automation frameworks
- Strong hands-on automation experience across UI and API testing
- Good coding or scripting ability, ideally with .NET, Java or Python
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines
- Strong understanding of test management tools and automation platforms
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills & stakeholder management and collaboration skills
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly to different audiences
- Experience leading, mentoring or guiding test automation engineers
- Familiarity with standards or frameworks such as ISTQB, ITIL, CMMI or TMMi
- Experience defining test automation KPIs and reporting measures
- Background working across complex change or transformation portfolios
