An independent publisher specialising in Ukrainian literature, history and culture is seeking an experienced Designer to provide temporary support for an initial period of up to three weeks.
The successful candidate will work on a fascinating and important publishing project: a biography of a generation of Ukrainian writers and artists who rebelled against Soviet suppression of their work and creative expression. The book combines historical narrative with visual material and includes a substantial number of images, poetry extracts and scholarly footnotes.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented designer with strong book publishing experience to work on a highly illustrated non-fiction title with a strong art and cultural focus.
Key Responsibilities- Designing and laying out a heavily illustrated non-fiction book
- Creating elegant and accessible page layouts that balance text, imagery, poetry and footnotes
- Working closely with editorial colleagues to ensure content is presented clearly and attractively
- Preparing files for print and managing amendments efficiently
- Maintaining a high standard of design while working to a tight schedule
- Proven experience designing and laying out illustrated books within publishing
- Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign
- Excellent typography and page design skills
- Experience working on art, cultural, historical or illustrated non-fiction titles
- Confidence handling complex layouts containing images, poetry, notes and references
- Available to start immediately and able to hit the ground running
