Do you have a PhD in biological sciences and a passion for scientific publishing? We have a lovely new opportunity with a prestigious publisher of medical journals based in London! They are looking for a Scientific Editor to join their team to check and confirm articles and information to be published. The company offers a hybrid working model with 1 or 2 days a week in their lovely London office.

This fabulous role requires high attention to detail and the ability to edit scientific content in line with accurate house style. A background in biological sciences is essential, preferably at PhD level, as this role will be responsible for checking the accuracy of scientific content and liaising with authors and peer reviewers throughout the process.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing first-round edits to ensure articles are clear, consistent, and accurate.
  • Copy-editing manuscripts for language, readability, and adherence to house style.
  • Checking factual content and raising queries with the Managing Editor when needed.
  • Reviewing author responses to edits and editorial feedback.
  • Supporting the peer review process, identifying plagiarism, ethics issues, and figure manipulation.
  • Conducting second-round edits and guiding Scientific Editors/Copy Editors.
  • Helping to train new team members.
