We are working with a prestigious London society publisher on an exciting role of Commissioning Editor for one of their leading scientific journals publishing high-quality content within the physical, mathematical and engineering sciences.

The Commissioning Editor oversees the publishing performance of the journal, driving profits through effective editorial strategies and ensuring top-tier academic content. Key responsibilities include commissioning impactful content, editorial development, and managing content pre- and post-acceptance to maintain the journal's leadership in its field.

Main responsibilities:

The Commissioning Editor will be responsible for:

  • Oversee all publishing activities and achieve strategic objectives for your assigned journal
  • Manage content and ensure a steady flow of high-quality content and manage pre- and post-acceptance processes
  • Develop the journal strategically, working with various stakeholders
  • Engage with top authors as the “face of the journal” and ensure regular submissions and high impact and visibility of the journal to readers and authors
  • Ensure smooth journal operations and excellent author care
  • Enhance the journal's visibility and market position
  • Manage costs within budgets and support the Editorial team

About you:

The successful candidate will possess excellent, up-to-date product and market knowledge, with a thorough understanding of the publishing needs of research scientists in both traditional peer-reviewed STM journals and other platforms like social media. You should demonstrate relevant commissioning experience and the ability to stay informed about hot topics and key figures in various physical sciences. With a strong background in STM publishing, particularly Open Access, you will bring great communication and networking skills to this role, showcasing effective collaboration with scientists, editors, and board members.
