We are looking for a Business Development Manager to join our successful Sales team. This role is home based with occasional travel to offices required.

Role and Responsibilities

The Business Development Manager will play a key role in driving profitable new business growth by identifying, developing, and securing new clients for Inspired Energy's Assurance division. Working collaboratively with specialist sales teams, the role will also identify opportunities across the Optimisation and ESG divisions, delivering integrated, value-led solutions that support clients’ wider commercial, operational and sustainability objectives. The role is focused on acquiring new customers through proactive business development, strategic account targeting and solution-based selling.

Working closely with Marketing and Telesales, the Business Development Manager will develop a sustainable pipeline of opportunities and convert them into long-term client relationships. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a thorough understanding of customers’ strategic objectives, operational challenges, and long-term business goals. By adopting a consultative sales approach, they will position Inspired Energy as a trusted advisor, delivering tailored commercial solutions that create measurable value and establish long-term strategic partnerships.

The successful candidate will be required to:
  • Consistently achieve or exceed individual sales, activity and revenue targets
  • Attend pre-qualified customer appointments to understand business requirements, identify commercial opportunities, and convert qualified prospects into new Assurance customers
  • Work with a list of prospect strategic customers provided by Marketing to engage at a senior executive level to sell the Inspired low energy cost and emissions solution
  • Build and manage a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities through strategic prospecting
  • Build trusted relationships with senior decision-makers and key stakeholders to understand business priorities, uncover opportunities and position Inspired Energy's solutions effectively
  • Identify solution-based opportunities across Inspired’s Assurance, Optimisation and ESG divisions
  • Deliver compelling sales presentations and commercial proposals tailored to customer needs
  • Negotiate commercial terms and successfully close new business opportunities in line with company objectives
  • Manage the full sales cycle from initial engagement through to contract award and customer handover
  • Work collaboratively with Marketing and Telesales to maximise lead generation campaigns and improve conversion rates
  • Maintain accurate pipeline management, opportunity records, sales activity and forecasting within the CRM system, ensuring timely and reliable reporting
  • Represent Inspired Energy at industry events, exhibitions and networking forums
  • Read and comply with the company Health & Safety Policy; taking reasonable care for the Health & Safety of themselves and others; co-operate with managers and other employees in fulfilling our objectives and statutory duties.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements

Essential

  • Minimum of five years' experience in business development or consultative B2B sales within the UK energy, utilities, sustainability or related professional services sectors
  • Proven track record of achieving or exceeding new business sales and revenue targets
  • Strong understanding of consultative and solution-based selling methodologies
  • Experience engaging, influencing and negotiating with C-suite executives and senior stakeholders
  • Self-motivated, resilient and target-driven, with a strong focus on delivering commercial results
  • Strong negotiation, influencing and closing skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, Telesales and specialist sales teams
  • Excellent presentation, communication and proposal-writing skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the UK commercial energy market, procurement strategies and regulatory landscape
  • Understanding of sustainability, ESG and carbon reduction solutions would be advantageous
  • Degree educated or equivalent commercial experience
