ROLE SUMMARY:

St Anthony’s is a Catholic Preparatory School (IAPS) for boys aged 2.5 – 13. It is Roman Catholic but welcomes boys of other faiths. The majority of boys transfer to leading Independent schools.

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and dedicated Head of Science to join our team at St Anthony’s Boys.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Model high standards of professional behaviour in all aspects of school life, including proactively communicating and collaborating with other Faculty Heads in order to realise the vision of the school as stated in the School Development Plan.
  2. Ensure that schemes of work curriculum plans from Reception to Year 8 are appropriate for an academic preparatory school, including the incorporation of challenge and stretch for the most able and support for those with additional needs.
  3. Ensure that all assessments are fit for purpose and successfully executed in line with the school’s reporting and assessment policy.
  4. Be responsible for progress tracking in the Faculty, in line with the whole school reporting and assessment policy.
  5. Ensure that staff responsible for delivering the curriculum throughout the school are confident in delivering high quality lessons at all times, including the coordination of resources.
  6. Work as part of a wider Middle Management Team, including attendance at Heads of Faculty meetings.
  7. Ensure that all activity in the Faculty is quality assured, including conducting three formal termly work scrutinies in the Science Faculty and at least two formal lesson observations per academic year for all staff teaching in the Faculty. This includes providing developmental feedback to staff.
  8. Proofread all reports written in subject areas within the Faculty prior to SLT sign off.
  9. Provide enrichment and cultural opportunities for students, pertaining to your Faculty, including out-of-school trips and participation in school enrichment sessions and preparing boys for scholarship examinations.
  10. Be proactive in their own self-development as well as that of those teaching subjects sitting within their Faculty; providing CPD suggestions and opportunities to enhance Teaching and Learning within the Faculty.
  11. Keep up to date with developments in subject area and education in general to ensure that best practice is adopted within the Faculty.
  12. Monitor the Faculty budget, including accounting for expenditure and the impact of this on learning.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  1. A long-term vision for developing the Science provision at St. Anthony’s School from Reception to Year 8.
  2. The ability to implement a robust and engaging curriculum from Reception to Year 8.
  3. A track record in implementing curriculum changes in order to improve student outcomes.
  4. Evidence of a commitment to providing continuous subject-related professional development to staff delivering Science.
  5. Experience of monitoring Science provision through work samples, lesson observations and departmental moderation exercises.
  6. Experience as a Head of Science.
