ROLE SUMMARY:

Wetherby School Kensington offers gold-standard private education for boys aged 4 to 8. Wetherby School Kensington is conveniently situated in the heart of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Our beautiful, terraced building overlooks Wetherby Gardens and boasts first-class, purpose-built preschool facilities across 5 storeys, offering the ideal backdrop for exceptional early childhood education.

We are now looking for an exceptional Head of Music to join us from September 2025. This role plays a vital role in planning, preparing, and delivering the music curriculum, ensuring that lessons are engaging, inclusive, and tailored to the needs of all children.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To teach classroom music to all boys in the school and ensure an engaging, stimulating and relevant learning environment is created.
  • Promote excellence in teaching and learning to ensure all boys develop their potential.
  • To create interesting and imaginative schemes of work for music.
  • Ensure a diverse range and style of music making is promoted and that boys have the opportunity to explore a variety of music genres.
  • Organise the scheduling of peripatetic music lessons including communicating with parents and staff as necessary.
  • Line management responsibility for the teaching staff in the music department and visiting music teachers.
  • Monitor and manage the music department’s allocated budget and purchasing arrangements to ensure the efficient and effective use of all resources.
  • Arrange concerts and other performance opportunities at all levels.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A good standard of education at degree level or above.
  • Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Excellent subject knowledge.
  • Experience of teaching a balanced and academically ambitious lessons.
  • Proven track record of outstanding teaching of Music.
  • Expert knowledge of music theory, composition, and performance.
  • Experience leading ensembles, choirs, and productions.
