ROLE SUMMARY:

The duties and responsibilities of the Sports Teacher are to plan and teach an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum in order to provide pupils with an opportunity to develop and improve both their physical skills and interpersonal skills, and ultimately achieve their individual potential. They will be involved in the teaching of the whole Physical Education curriculum with a particular focus on the development of netball and its related skills.

The Sports Teacher is responsible to the Head of PE and Games, the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and ultimately the Head.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities of the Head of Lower School PE

  • Create programmes of study for the Lower School Reception to Year 2 to be followed by all staff teaching the Lower School.
  • Liaise with Games and Swimming staff including external providers on matters relating to the Lower School, such as curriculum plans, teaching roles, lesson observations and feedback, along with their overall responsibilities and expectations. Reporting back to the HOD should any issues arise.
  • Make use of TA’s for lessons giving clear directions and for administration within the department.
  • Ensure facilities bookings for Lower School games are in place with the HOD.
  • Ensure transport bookings for the Lower School are in place with the HOD.
  • Plan and deliver Lower School sports days and Inter-House events.
  • Meet regularly with the HOD to review departmental matters and matters relating to the Lower School.

Responsibilities of the Swimming Lead

  • Liaise with Swimming staff including external providers on matters relating to the Lower School, such as curriculum plans, teaching roles, lesson observations and feedback, along with their overall responsibilities and expectations. Reporting back to the HOD should any issues arise.
  • Approve invoicing of the external swim coaches and venues.
  • Ensure facilities bookings for Lower School games and swimming are in place with the HOD.
  • Ensure transport bookings for the Lower School and swimming are in place with the HOD.
  • Select the Swim squad.
  • Liaise with parents on all matters relating to swimming.
  • Arrange galas across the school including the Year 2 swim gala.
  • Attend the welcome evening for new Year 2 parents to discuss swimming.
  • Report to the HOD.
