Mechanical Fitter

We are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join a leading heavy engineering and foundry enviroment in Sheffield.

Working as part of a skilled maintenance team, you will be responsible for carrying out planned and preventative maintenance activities, ensuring plant machinery and production equipment operate safely and efficiently.

This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically minded engineer who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and is looking to develop their skills within a well-established heavy engineering facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on foundry and plant machinery.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults to minimise downtime and maintain production output.
  • Perform routine inspections of equipment and machinery, identifying potential issues before they become breakdowns.
  • Support maintenance shutdowns and major repair projects.
  • Replace and repair components including bearings, pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, motors, shafts, and hydraulic equipment.
  • Work closely with production and engineering teams to ensure machinery reliability.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete work reports.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance and reliability.
  • Participate in emergency breakdown response when required.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Previous experience working as a Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Fitter, or similar engineering role.
  • Experience within a heavy engineering, foundry, steel, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical maintenance principles and fault-finding techniques.
  • Experience carrying out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems would be advantageous.
  • Welding experience, particularly Stick/MMA welding, would be highly desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
