We are partnering exclusively with DVLA to bring you an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced Lead Product Manager.
Within the ITS directorate, we are recruiting a Product Leader for DVLA with responsibility for managing and leading a number of products within a product portfolio containing multiple individual products. The Lead Product Manager role is a critical role in driving the development of new and existing DVLA service during and exiting period of development.
Key elements of this role are:
- Managing a portfolio of products, providing leadership and direction, whilst also acting as product manager for the most complex areas
- Creating and maintaining a portfolio level product vision and high-level roadmap across the product portfolio
- Setting strategy and managing resource allocation within product to support Product Development
- Working closely with other Lead Product Managers to ensure synergy across the product organisation
- Contribute to the DVLA product management capability to build and develop standards and guidance across the capability
- Working closely with the Head of Product to provide leadership and direction within the product community
- Being involved in hiring senior product managers and managing any related contracts
- Budgeting and forecasting across the product portfolio
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Scoping, mobilising and ensuring the delivery of a portfolio of technical products, services and outcomes ensuring the delivery of high-quality digital services using an appropriate blend of agile methodologies, learning & iteration
- Line managing and mentoring Product managers within the product portfolio and support continuous professional development within the capability
- Creating, managing and communicating complex technical roadmaps
- Leading the collaborative, dynamic technical planning process - prioritising outcomes that need to be achieved against the capacity and capability of multi-disciplinary teams and ensuring there is an iterative plan to work towards to ensure successful delivery
- Managing the overall integrity and coherence of the portfolio's technical delivery, its dependencies and interfaces with other deliverables using appropriate tooling
- Working with engineering teams within the product areas to define and manage an efficient portfolio roadmap that encompasses both new product features and operational maintenance and technology refresh of existing platforms
- Manage continued operational running of the products within the portfolio ensuring in line with service SLAs
About You
This role requires strong leadership and the ability to understand the impact actions have on the organisation. The successful candidate will have experience of mobilising large scale product deliveries, driving a positive team culture, supporting professional development and be able to motivate teams to be fully engaged in their work. As a leader it's important that you can be a strong advocate for continuous professional development and be an ambassador for changing culture across government. You will be an experienced product manager, ideally with a technical background. You will have experience in the delivery of a range of complex and large-scale change in a fast-paced environment, including the successful use of agile methodologies, and have a sound understanding of the digital landscape. You must have experience in delivering enterprise scale digital products and services and of balancing multiple priorities. In addition, you will be professionally curious taking an interest in the development of the wider community and always looking at the big picture. You will already hold or will be expected to commit to undertaking appropriate development / qualifications to achieve professional standards of technical product management, up to Certified Scrum Professional Product Owner.
