Protecting one of the UK's most critical national assets, HM Land Registry safeguards the Land Registers of England and Wales, an asset valued at over £8 trillion. This role sits at the heart of that responsibility.
We're looking for a senior cyber security leader to provide independent assurance, oversight and strategic challenge across cyber security controls, risks and posture.
The role:
- Reporting to the Chief Security Advisor, you'll be responsible for establishing and maintaining an effective cyber security posture across HM Land Registry and providing senior leaders with confidence that cyber risks are understood, proportionate and well managed.
- You'll work closely with technology, transformation and delivery teams, offering constructive challenge, assurance and expert advice across cyber security, information security and protective security.
- This is a role for someone who enjoys influence over ownership, and who knows how to balance risk, delivery and pragmatism in complex, regulated environments.
What you'll be doing:
- Leading cyber security assurance activity across a large, complex organisation
- Assessing the effectiveness of cyber controls and advising on improvements
- Providing senior stakeholders with clear, evidence-based assurance on cyber risk
- Shaping and maintaining cyber risk management approaches and assurance frameworks
- Working across first and second line functions to ensure risks are identified, understood and managed
- Contributing to policy development and security standards
- Engaging confidently with senior leaders, auditors, and the wider security community
What we're looking for:
This role will suit a senior cyber professional who has operated in high-risk, highly regulated or critical environments, and who understands how to provide credible challenge without blocking delivery. You'll bring:
- CISSP (or equivalent)
- A strong working knowledge of cyber and information security standards such as ISO 27001
- Experience leading cyber assurance or risk programmes at a strategic level
- Proven ability to engage, influence and brief at senior leadership level
- Experience of audit and assurance activity (e.g. GovAssure or equivalent)
- Sound judgement, strong written skills, and confidence operating in ambiguity
- Experience in government is useful, but not essential.
- We're very open to candidates from consulting, regulated industry, utilities, finance, or other large-scale environments where cyber risk really matters.
Working pattern & travel:
- Hybrid working with a mix of office and home-based working
- Occasional travel to other UK offices and quarterly travel to London
- Overnight stays may be required from time to time
Security clearance:
This role requires Developed Vetting (DV). You'll need to meet UK residency requirements (minimum 10 years).
Why HM Land Registry?
This is a rare opportunity to work at national scale, with genuine impact, strong leadership visibility and the chance to shape cyber assurance across a critical public institution. You'll also benefit from flexible working, strong professional development, and one of the most competitive pension schemes in the UK.
