HM Land Registry (HMLR) bring an exciting opportunity for a Senior Network Engineer to join the team responsible for supporting and maintaining the core network infrastructure that powers all of HMLR\’s services across 14 U offices. Based within the IT Operations Practice, you\’ll work across a diverse estate that includes new office topologies, firewall upgrades and routing designs. Salary of £46,058 to £50,715 (Rising up to £57,400 in 2 years) plus excellent Civil Service benefits inc. 29% pension contribution. Flexible, hybrid working from 14 UK offices.
The IT Operations Practice contains an established network function who are responsible for the design, delivery, and maintenance of HM Land Registry network infrastructure. This encompasses data centres, local offices across England and Wales in addition to cloud infrastructure hosted on AWS and Azure. These services underpin all of HMLRs IT services.
The team are actively engaged in a series of exciting network re-designs, consolidations and upgrades including new local office topology, new switching, firewalls and routing designs.
You will provide technical input for projects and larger pieces of work, aiming for greater operating efficiency and development of further cost-effective options for its use whilst ensuring the availability and reliability are kept at the highest possible levels.

Responsibilities include:
- Provide technical support for the build and maintenance of IT Infrastructure and platforms, as part of a wider infrastructure engineering community.
- In conjunction with subject matter experts from IT Operations and relevant practises, develop and maintain IT Infrastructure to ensure the availability, integrity and performance of services.
- Build and maintain technical standards and work with technical architects to translate architectural designs into operational designs.
- Assist in the planning and management of technical changes related to your IT Operations specialism.
- Identify and scope opportunities to improve technical services.
- Take accountability for ensuring that your technical area follows the principles of the Technology strategy.
- Make decisions to ensure that technical implementations are compatible with the aims of the HM Land Registry business strategy and be able to escalate where appropriate
Essential skills:
- Qualification in Information Technology / Network focused certifications OR network focused industry experience
- Layer 2 and Layer 3 network protocols including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLAN, STP
- Firewall configuration, including policy changes
- Experience of technical leadership within an IT organisation
- Experience in the delivery of significant network infrastructure change, from design to delivery
- Visualise, articulate and solve complex problems and make disciplined decisions based on available information.
- Strong communication skills, building good relationships, and explaining technical issues to non-technical stakeholders
Desirable skills
- Maintenance and operation of AWS or Microsoft Azure cloud network solutions
- ITIL Foundation Certificate

Expectation is to be working from one of HMLR\’s offices 60% of your time across the month (typically 3 days/week).
