You will be a key member of a 24/7 operations team and play a vital role in supporting and optimising mission-critical systems. Based in Erskine or Newcastle, with a salary ranging up to £62,000 inc. shift allowance plus pension, flexi-benefits fund and £10,000 bonus following security clearance. Role Overview : We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Red Hat Linux Engineer to join a dymanic team. This role involves providing round-the-clock onsite support to ensure the stability, security, and performance of our Linux-based systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment. Applicants must be UK sole nationals due to the nature of the work and security requirements. Candidates must also demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and challenges. Key Responsibilities : Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot Red Hat Linux systems to ensure optimal performance and uptime. Perform system installations, configurations, and upgrades, adhering to best practices. Respond promptly to incidents, resolving issues within defined SLAs. Implement and manage system security measures, including patch management and vulnerability assessments. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support infrastructure projects and deployments. Develop and maintain scripts to automate routine tasks and improve system efficiency. Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. Participate in a rotating shift schedule of 2 days, 2 nights, followed by 4 days off to provide 24×7 support, including weekends and holidays. Qualifications : Proven experience as a Linux Engineer, with expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). Red Hat certifications (e.g., RHCSA, RHCE) are highly desirable. Strong knowledge of Linux system administration, networking, and security. Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl. Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet). Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities. Must be a UK sole national . Must be willing to learn and adapt to new technologies and challenges. Preferred Skills : Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM). Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). Understanding of ITIL processes and incident management.
