We're looking for a dedicated SEN Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join one of our welcoming partner schools near King's Lynn, Norfolk. This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to make a lasting difference to children with additional needs, including social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. Location: King's Lynn, Norfolk
Role: SEN Mental Health Teaching Assistant
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
Pay: £14.40 - £15.55 per hour (including 12.07% holiday pay)
Contract: Temp to Perm
Start: September 2026
About the Role
As an SEN Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you'll play a vital role in supporting children who may have struggled in mainstream education. Working closely with teachers and therapists, you'll help create a nurturing, structured environment where students can build confidence, improve focus, and develop essential life skills. This is more than just a classroom role; it's about helping young people believe in themselves again.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and group support for students with SEMH or additional learning needs
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, offering consistency and calm reassurance
- Assist in delivering creative, engaging lessons tailored to each student's needs
- Encourage independence and personal growth through positive reinforcement
- Support emotional regulation and behaviour management using trauma-informed strategies
- Collaborate with teachers and pastoral staff to ensure every child reaches their potential
Please note: The role involves active engagement such as participating in play, helping students with movement, and supporting in moments of escalation using approved physical intervention techniques (training provided).

- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths - Grade C/4 or above
- Experience supporting children with SEND, SEMH, or behavioural needs
- A calm, empathetic approach and strong communication skills
- Flexibility, resilience, and the ability to think on your feet
- A genuine passion for supporting children's education and well-being
- Full right to work in the UK (we cannot offer visa sponsorship)
