Therapeutic Tutor Location: Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire Hours: Flexible, up to 15 hours per week Contract: Temporary/ongoing, subject to the learner’s needs Start date: As soon as possible About the Therapeutic Tutor Role Inspire Tutoring is seeking a compassionate, patient and experienced Therapeutic Tutor in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire to provide highly personalised 1:1 or even 2:1 support for a young person who is currently unable to access school because of significant anxiety and emotionally based school avoidance. The successful tutor must be able to commute to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire 5 days a week for up to 3 hours per day, build a safe, trusting relationship and use a calm, flexible and trauma-informed approach to help the learner re-engage with education at an appropriate pace. Key Responsibilities as a Therapeutic Tutor Plan and deliver individualised sessions that combine therapeutic engagement with accessible learning activities. Establish consistent routines and a low-pressure learning environment in which the learner feels safe and understood. Use creative, interest-led and relationship-based approaches to develop confidence, emotional regulation and readiness to learn. Introduce academic content gradually, adapting expectations in response to the learner’s presentation and progress. Work collaboratively with parents or carers, schools, professionals and the Inspire Tutoring team. Record attendance, engagement, progress and outcomes clearly after each session. Support carefully planned transition and reintegration goals when the learner is ready. Follow safeguarding, risk-assessment, confidentiality and professional-boundary procedures at all times. Commute to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire About You Experience supporting children or young people with anxiety, autism, SEND, trauma, SEMH needs or emotionally based school avoidance. A strong understanding of trauma-informed, attachment-aware and neurodiversity-affirming practice. The ability to remain calm, dependable and responsive while maintaining clear professional boundaries. Confidence adapting learning to suit an individual learner’s communication, sensory and emotional needs. Excellent written communication and accurate record-keeping skills. A relevant teaching, tutoring, therapeutic, youth work, SEND or pastoral qualification is desirable. QTS is welcomed but is not essential where applicants can demonstrate strong relevant experience. Willingness to complete an enhanced DBS check and all required safeguarding and compliance checks.
