We are currently seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist education setting supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting pupils who may present with challenging behaviour and require consistent, nurturing, and trauma-informed support.

Location: Dudley
Contract: Full-time / Term-time only
Salary: £19,509 - £21,820 (depending on experience)

The role:

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs on a one-to-one and small group basis
  • Help pupils manage behaviour, emotions, and social interactions using positive behaviour strategies
  • Support learning across the curriculum, adapting tasks to meet individual needs
  • Build trusting, consistent relationships with pupils to promote engagement and progress
  • Support pupils during unstructured times such as breaks and transitions
  • Implement behaviour support plans and de-escalation strategies
  • Promote emotional wellbeing, resilience, and self-confidence
  • Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals
  • Support safeguarding, wellbeing, and pastoral care across the setting

About you:

  • You will be calm, patient, and resilient, with the ability to remain consistent and positive in challenging situations.
  • You will understand that behaviour is communication and be committed to supporting pupils in a trauma-informed and compassionate way.

Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, or trauma-related challenges (desirable)
  • A calm, empathetic, and consistent approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
  • Experience in SEMH, PRU, alternative provision, or specialist settings (desirable)
