About the Role
We are recruiting for a dedicated and experienced Transition Teacher to support learners aged 16+ within a specialist SEN setting. This role is ideal for a teacher with Key Stage 3 and above experience who is passionate about preparing young people with autism and additional needs for adulthood. You will work within a structured and supportive environment, helping students develop independence, life skills, employability awareness, and confidence as they transition into further education, training, or employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality teaching in line with Teachers Standards
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons appropriate for post-16 learners
- Support students with autism, learning difficulties, and SEMH needs
- Focus on developing independence, life skills, and social communication
- Create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
- Work closely with a multidisciplinary team including therapists and support staff
- Manage behaviour using consistent, positive strategies
- Monitor and assess progress using SEN frameworks including P Levels and National Curriculum
- Support students during unstructured times such as breaks and transitions
- Prepare learners for future pathways including employment and further education
Candidate Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Degree-level qualification
- Experience teaching Key Stage 3 and above, ideally including post-16 learners
- Experience within SEN, particularly autism or learning disabilities
- Strong understanding of EHCPs and differentiated learning
- Knowledge of SEN assessment frameworks (P Levels and National Curriculum)
- Confident supporting behaviour and emotional regulation
- Full UK driving licence (essential)
- Right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available)
