We are currently working with a specialist school in Effingham that provides high-quality academic and therapeutic provision for students aged 11–16 with autism and associated behavioural and communication difficulties. This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated and nurturing Year 7 Teacher to lead a small Year 7 class of 6 learners who are cognitively working at approximately Year 3/4 level. The pupils present with ASD and SEMH needs, and you will be supported in the classroom by an experienced HLTA and TA.

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is not essential; however, candidates must be willing to work towards QTS and demonstrate a strong commitment to professional development.

The Role:

  • Plan and deliver highly differentiated lessons appropriate for learners working at a Year 3/4 cognitive level
  • Create a structured, calm and therapeutic learning environment
  • Implement positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
  • Work collaboratively with the HLTA, TA, SENCO and wider therapeutic team
  • Monitor, assess and track pupil progress in line with individual EHCP outcomes
  • Build strong, consistent relationships with pupils and families

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with students with ASD and/or SEMH
  • Strong understanding of adapting curriculum content for pupils working below age-related expectations
  • Confident behaviour management and a trauma-informed approach
  • Patient, resilient and passionate about inclusive education
  • Willing to work towards QTS if not already qualified
