Are you a passionate and experienced Electrical professional looking to inspire the next generation? Peterborough College is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Lecturer to join our thriving team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the successful learning experiences of our students, from foundational skills to advanced qualifications.
As an Electrical Lecturer at Peterborough College, you\’ll play a vital role in shaping our students\’ futures. You\’ll be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and assessment on a diverse range of Electrical courses, from Level 1 right up to Level 4 (HND) . This role goes beyond the classroom, involving course co-ordination and potentially internal verification/moderation .
You\’ll report directly to the Head of Faculty and will be instrumental in ensuring our provision meets or exceeds College standards, leading to high levels of student retention and achievement.
What You\’ll Be Doing: Your main duties will include, but not be limited to:
- Delivering engaging teaching activities that respond to learners\’ needs and align with Professional Teaching Standards.
- Assessing student work , providing constructive and timely feedback to motivate and inspire improvement.
- Creating, recording, and monitoring SMART targets for student progress, implementing positive interventions when needed.
- Collaborating with colleagues to design, develop, manage, and review curriculum programmes.
- Developing comprehensive course materials , schemes of work, and group profiles.
- Providing academic tutorials to offer feedback and guidance on student performance.
- Ensuring all Health and Safety procedures are followed and maintaining high standards within the department and College.
- Contributing to the promotion and delivery of College courses , including developing short courses driven by market needs.
- Carrying out internal verification duties in line with quality assurance processes.
- Assisting in finding and monitoring work experience placements for students, liaising with employers.
- Building strong relationships with learners and providing support for successful outcomes.
- Participating in marketing, IAG, and enrolment processes , including student recruitment activities, interviews, and open evenings.
- Maintaining thorough and compliant records of grade tracking, work experience, attendance, progress, and assessments.
- Embedding Information Learning Technology (ILT) to create an efficient and effective learning environment.
- Integrating opportunities to improve students\’ English and maths within all learning activities.
- Developing and delivering inspiring classroom experiences that foster high aspirations, motivation, and a positive learning environment.
What We\’re Looking For: We\’re seeking a candidate with a strong background in Electrical and a passion for education.
Essential Qualifications:
- Minimum Level 5/6 Teaching qualification (e.g., DTTLS, Diploma in Education and Training, Cert Ed or PGCE). If you don\’t yet hold this, we will support you in achieving it within 3 years of employment as an Unqualified Lecturer.
- Minimum qualification to teach the subject at Level 3 or 4 , HND, degree, or a professional industry qualification in Electrical.
- Minimum of Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy.
- Assessor Award (A1/TAQA/CAVA) (or a willingness to work towards this).
Essential Experience & Knowledge:
- Comprehensive, recent experience working in the Electrical industry.
- In-depth knowledge of Electrical subject specialism to teach on Levels 1 to 4 qualifications.
- Knowledge/experience of embedding maths and English into curriculum delivery.
- Up-to-date knowledge of current initiatives impacting vocational/subject areas.

- Ability to inspire, motivate, and raise student aspirations.
- Strong ability to manage and promote positive learner behaviour and maintain discipline.
- Proficient in using ILT within a teaching and learning environment.

- Excellent planning, organisation, and administrative skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
- Good IT skills.
