We’re looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Lecturer in Functional Skills English to join our friendly and supportive Essential Skills team. You’ll play a key role in supporting learners in Entry Level English, helping them develop the communication, literacy, and confidence they need to succeed in education, work, and life. What you’ll be doing
- Deliver high-quality teaching in Functional Skills in English, creating engaging and inclusive lessons that inspire learners.
- Plan, assess, and provide feedback to help students progress and achieve their goals.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to design, develop, and review programmes within the English curriculum.
- Support and motivate learners of varying abilities, ensuring positive engagement and achievement.
- Take part in course coordination and quality assurance processes to maintain high academic standards.
- Contribute to marketing, enrolment, and open events to promote the department and its successes.
- Embed English and maths skills across learning activities, ensuring learners gain transferable skills for life and work.
About you
- Has a Level 5 (or higher) qualification in a relevant subject area.
- Holds, or is willing to work towards, a recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, CertEd, or equivalent).
- Has experience teaching English at Entry Level to GCSE, or is eager to develop in this area.
- Demonstrates creativity and innovation in their teaching approach.
- Has excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Is passionate about helping learners overcome barriers and achieve success.
- Is committed to safeguarding, equality of opportunity, and continuous professional development.
