Overview

Become a Teaching Assistant Apprentice at Big Creative Academy and support students with SEN and Education, Health & Care Plans. You will provide tailored 1:1 and small group support, promote independence, monitor progress, and champion inclusion across the Academy. You will work closely with our Special Educational Needs Coordinator and Inclusion Manager to enable students to access learning, develop independence, and achieve their full potential. Support may take place within the classroom or in small group/1:1 settings, always under the guidance of teaching staff.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the SENCo to deliver tailored support and care programmes, ensuring students can fully engage in learning.
  • Encourage independence and inclusion, supporting students across all aspects of Academy life.
  • Provide targeted 1:1 or small group support to help students build confidence and understanding of the curriculum.
  • Monitor attendance, progress, and outcomes for students with EHCPs, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Prepare and collate information to support assessments, reviews, and inspections. Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
  • Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context; apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapt resources to support all learners and adapt teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role; build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety; support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures; apply methods of formative assessment; use up-to-date technology safely to support learning and encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners; provide feedback to learners.

Qualifications and Skills

  • GCSE in English and Maths (grade 4-9 or equivalent).
  • Communication skills, IT skills, attention to detail, organisation, problem solving, numeracy, teamwork, creativity, initiative, non-judgemental attitude, and patience.

Apprenticeship Details

  • Each apprentice will have a dedicated tutor who conducts monthly remote tutorials and reviews; frequency may vary based on need.
  • Inspire ATA is a Flexi-Job Apprenticeship Agency, licensed by the Department for Education. Apprenticeship placement is hosted by the client; Inspire ATA is the employer and arranges training with partnered providers.
  • Salary: £11,778 for the first year, with potential increases depending on age and progression to 19+ years; National Minimum Wage applies for apprentices. Automatic pay increase after one year on the programme for 19+ year olds.
  • Hours: 30 hours per week. Start date: Monday 27 October 2025. Duration: 1 year 6 months. Teaching Assistant (Level 3) apprenticeship.
