Overview
We are a primary maintained special school in the Local Authority of Barnet for children with complex and profound learning difficulties, including severe autism, complex medical conditions, physical and mobility challenges, and severe developmental delay.
Inspire ATA is an official Flexi-Job Apprenticeship Agency, licensed by the Department for Education.
We recruit and employ apprentices on behalf of host clients to provide support and a better experience for both the apprentice and the client.
The apprenticeship placement is hosted by a separate organisation, while Inspire ATA is the employer.

What You’ll Do
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company to gain hands-on experience, develop new skills, and work with experienced staff. Your responsibilities include:
- Support the classroom teacher in all areas of teaching, learning and assessment, including using Tapestry.
- Develop understanding of key strategies used across the school to support individual learning needs (e. g., PECS, TEACCH, Attention Autism, Intensive Interaction).
- Attend training on key strategies and areas of school development.
- Assist with the preparation of learning activities, displays, resources and visual supports.
- Report pupils’ responses to learning activities and record achievement/progress as directed.
- Be willing to participate in all aspects of teaching and learning, including intimate care, play and swimming sessions.
- Understand and contribute to the emotional support of all pupils.
- Support the behaviour and well‑being of all pupils and assist with personal needs, including toileting, hygiene, dressing and eating, as required.
This may include gastrostomy management, suctioning and tracheostomy care, and administering medication under supervision and training.
- Follow manual handling procedures to support pupils with physical disabilities.
- Follow Team Teach guidance in the positive handling of children.
- Establish good relationships with pupils and act as a positive role model while responding to individual needs.
- Encourage pupils to interact with others and participate in activities led by the teacher.
- Follow safeguarding procedures and school health, safety and security policies, data protection, and report concerns to the safeguarding lead.
- Accompany staff and pupils on educational visits and activities.
- Contribute to wider school activities such as fayres and fundraising events.
- Provide feedback to the teacher about information to share with parents, for example related to personal care or changes in behaviour.
- Work under the direction of therapists (Occupational, Physiotherapist, Speech and Language) to carry out daily programmes with pupils as required.
