My client's Private Client Tax department are looking for a Senior to join their exciting and growing team. I am looking for someone to manage a varied personal client tax portfolio dealing with all routine personal tax compliance and ad hoc advisory work. The role requires you to take ownership of the portfolio under the guidance of an Assistant Manager.
This role follows a hybrid working pattern, with a combination of in-office and remote work. It typically requires three days per week in the St Albans office and an occasional day in the City office as needed.
Key Responsibilities:- Dealing with all day-to-day requirements for a Private Client portfolio, comprising of a mix of clients with varied sources of income e.g., earned and investment income.
- Primary point of contact for clients.
- Dealing with partnerships and high net worth individuals.
- Liaising with colleagues outside the Private Client team on client matters e.g., with the General Practice/audit/accounting team.
- Dealing with a range of capital gains tax issues.
- Assisting with or dealing with the delivery of technical advisory work on the portfolio.
- Assisting with one off advisory and compliance assignments.
- Attending client meetings.
- Proposing fees, raising client bills and regularly reviewing WIP.
- The candidate should have experience in advising on a wide range of tax issues which should ideally include the following areas:
- Technical expertise: Already ATT qualified and ideally studying for the CTA qualification (or already CTA qualified).
- Previous tax experience with a track record of portfolio management is preferred.
- Experience of the various aspects of Self-Assessment and preparation of tax computations.
- Experience of basic private client advisory work.
- Advising on EIS, VCT and SEIS investment reliefs for private clients.
- Knowledge of UK tax residence and domicile rules preferred.
- Ability to proactively use tax legislation, HMRC guidance and other tax resources to support or research technical issues encountered on client work.
- Private clients and proprietors of owner-managed businesses (self-employed, partnerships and small companies).
- Non-UK domiciled and non-UK resident clients.
- UK based high net worth individuals.

- Actively and consistently seeks out opportunities for work and feedback on areas of improvement.
- Aware of the relationship between chargeable hours, fees and WIP recovery/profits, and monitors own contribution.
- Proactively approaches clients and contacts with ideas and possible opportunities.
- Takes responsibility for delivery of client assignments to a high standard.
- Actively engages with client through delivery process.
- Can take responsibility for their workload and work with the managers and above to assist with completion.
- Excellent communication skills, both written, verbal and presentation.
- Engages confidently with clients in a friendly and professional manner.
- A good team player recognising team objectives and goals and assisting others as required.
- Provides suggestions and ideas to try and improve operational issues.
