Job Description
Tax Investigations Assistant Manager
Milton Keynes | Hybrid | Β£50,000-Β£60,000 + Benefits
A specialist opportunity for Tax Investigations professionals ready for their next step.
Are you working in Tax Investigations, Tax Disputes or HMRC Enquiries and looking for a role where you can take on more responsibility, work on genuinely interesting cases and continue developing your technical expertise?
An established Top 50 accountancy firm is looking to strengthen its Tax Investigations offering with the appointment of a Tax Investigations Assistant Manager in Milton Keynes.
This is an opportunity to join a respected tax team where Tax Investigations is a genuine area of expertise, rather than simply being an occasional part of a broader tax role.
The Role
You'll work across a varied portfolio of HMRC investigations and tax disputes, supporting clients through complex and potentially high-value matters.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing and progressing HMRC enquiries and investigations from initial engagement through to resolution
- Working on COP8 and COP9 cases and other complex HMRC interventions
- Assisting with voluntary disclosures and tax settlements
- Preparing detailed reports, submissions and correspondence for HMRC
- Analysing financial information and identifying potential tax exposures
- Liaising directly with HMRC and clients
- Supporting negotiations with HMRC and settlement discussions
- Assisting with ADR, appeals and contentious tax matters
- Reviewing work and supporting more junior members of the team
- Building strong client relationships and becoming a trusted adviser throughout the investigation process
Who are they looking for?
We're interested in speaking with professionals who have a genuine interest in Tax Investigations and Dispute Resolution.
You may currently be a:
Tax Investigations Senior | Assistant Manager | Tax Disputes Senior | Tax Dispute Resolution professional
with experience gained within an accountancy or professional services environment.
You'll ideally have experience across:
- HMRC investigations and enquiries
- COP8 / COP9
- Voluntary disclosures
- Tax settlements
- Disclosure reports
- HMRC negotiations
- Complex personal or corporate tax investigations
Professional qualifications such as CTA, ATT, ACA or ACCA would be advantageous, but relevant investigations experience is the key consideration.
Why consider it?
Specialist exposure - build your career within a genuine Tax Investigations environment.
Interesting work - gain exposure to complex HMRC investigations, disclosures and disputes.
Responsibility - take ownership of cases and develop your client management skills.
Progression - a clear opportunity to develop towards Manager and beyond.
Location - Milton Keynes-based with hybrid working, offering a specialist opportunity without the need to commute into central London every day.
The Opportunity
We're looking for someone commercial, technically curious and confident dealing with clients and HMRC.
If you're currently working in Tax Investigations and feel you're ready for more responsibility, greater exposure or a clearer route to progression, this could be an excellent next move.
