This is a senior leadership opportunity for an established tax disputes professional who combines exceptional technical capability with a strong commercial mindset. The successful candidate will be responsible for advising on complex HMRC disputes while playing a key role in developing client relationships, generating new opportunities, and winning business. Key Responsibilities

  • Leading complex UK tax disputes and HMRC investigations, including COP8 and COP9 matters.
  • Providing strategic advice to clients on contentious tax issues, investigation strategy, risk management, and resolution.
  • Managing sensitive and technically complex cases through to successful outcomes.
  • Building trusted relationships with clients, accountants, lawyers, wealth advisers, and other professional intermediaries.
  • Identifying and converting new business opportunities through networking, referrals, and market engagement.
  • Developing and expanding the firm's tax disputes offering and market profile.
  • Representing the firm externally and contributing to thought leadership and business development initiatives.
  • Supporting and mentoring colleagues while contributing to the wider direction of the practice.

Candidate Requirements

  • Significant experience in UK tax disputes, investigations, and HMRC enquiry work.
  • Essential: Proven experience handling COP8 and COP9 investigations.
  • Strong technical understanding of HMRC enquiry procedures, disclosures, settlements, penalties, and dispute resolution.
  • Demonstrable commercial ability with a track record of developing relationships and winning new work.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to advise senior clients on complex tax matters.
  • A confident and credible presence in the market.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience with HMRC, particularly within Specialist Investigations, Fraud Investigation Service (FIS), or other senior compliance roles, would be highly desirable but is not essential.
  • An established network across the tax, legal, accountancy, and professional services markets.
  • CTA, ACA, or equivalent professional qualification would be advantageous.
