Tax Disputes SpecialistExeter | Hybrid | Permanent
Β£60,000-Β£70,000 + benefits
I'm working with a growing specialist tax advisory firm in the Exeter area that is looking to strengthen its Tax Disputes and HMRC investigations team.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced tax professional to take on a varied portfolio of complex HMRC cases, providing practical and commercially focused advice while working closely with senior members of the team.
The role would suit someone who enjoys the investigative and contentious side of tax, wants exposure to a broad range of HMRC matters and is looking for the opportunity to play a key role within a growing specialist function.
The Role
- Managing a portfolio of clients across a range of HMRC enquiries and tax disputes.
- Reviewing client records, tax returns and supporting documentation to understand the issues under enquiry.
- Developing robust strategies and responses to HMRC challenges and information requests.
- Advising clients throughout the enquiry process and helping them achieve the best possible outcome.
- Handling complex tax investigations, disclosures, assessments and penalties.
- Building strong, long-term client relationships through clear and commercially focused advice.
- Working closely with senior stakeholders on complex cases and contributing to the development of the wider disputes offering.
- Identifying opportunities to support existing clients and contribute to business development.
- Sharing knowledge and supporting more junior members of the team where appropriate.
About You
The successful candidate will have strong experience in Tax Investigations, Tax Disputes or HMRC-facing tax advisory.
You will ideally have:
- ATT or CTA qualification, or relevant professional/legal qualifications.
- Strong practical experience dealing with HMRC enquiries and investigations.
- Experience managing complex tax disputes from initial enquiry through to resolution.
- A good understanding of HMRC powers, information requests, assessments, penalties and appeals.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trusted client relationships.
- A commercially minded, practical and solution-focused approach.
- The ability to manage multiple complex cases and deadlines independently.
The Opportunity
This is more than simply managing a caseload. You'll have the opportunity to join a growing specialist function, work on interesting HMRC cases and contribute to the continued development of the team's Tax Disputes offering.
If you're currently working in Tax Investigations, Tax Disputes or HMRC-facing advisory and are based in or around Exeter, I'd be keen to have a confidential conversation.
