Job Description
Senior Accountant - Accounts and Audit
Competitive salary + benefits | Hybrid & Flexi-time | Full-time
Are you an ambitious qualified accountant looking for a role where you can take ownership of a client portfolio, broaden your technical experience and play a meaningful part in a growing practice?
We're working with a well-established accountancy firm that is entering an exciting period of significant growth. The business has strong plans for the future and is looking for a driven Senior Accountant who wants to develop alongside the firm, take on increasing responsibility and contribute to its continued success.
The culture is friendly, collaborative and genuinely supportive, with teamwork at the heart of how the practice operates. It's a progressive environment where people are encouraged to develop their skills, build strong client relationships and have a voice in how the business moves forward.
The Role
This is a varied position combining approximately 50% accounts and 50% audit, making it well suited to someone who enjoys variety and wants to maintain a broad technical skill set.
As a Senior Accountant, you'll manage a diverse portfolio of clients, lead assignments and work directly with clients to understand their needs and provide practical advice. Alongside year-end accounts and tax work, you'll gain valuable audit exposure, including leading assignments and overseeing junior team members.
With the firm going through a period of expansion, there is genuine scope to take on more responsibility as your experience develops.
What you'll be doing
- Managing a varied portfolio of small and medium-sized businesses, including limited companies, groups, LLPs and partnerships
- Taking ownership of client assignments from planning through to completion
- Building strong relationships with clients and acting as a key point of contact for queries
- Preparing year-end statutory accounts for Partner review
- Managing bookkeeping, management accounts and VAT assignments
- Preparing corporation tax computations
- Planning and conducting audit assignments
- Supervising and reviewing the work of junior team members during audits
- Supporting Partners with ad hoc advisory and project work
- Identifying opportunities to provide clients with additional advice and support
- Contributing to the continued development of the wider team and practice
What we're looking for
You'll be ACA or ACCA qualified with at least three years' audit experience and a solid grounding across accounts and wider practice work.
The ideal candidate will have experience of managing audits and be comfortable taking responsibility for assignments and client relationships. Exposure to charities or academies would be advantageous, although not essential.
You'll also have:
- Strong knowledge of statutory and management accounts
- Good understanding of VAT and corporation tax
- Confident client communication skills
- The ability to manage your own workload and meet deadlines
- A collaborative approach to working with colleagues
- Good attention to detail and commercial awareness
- A genuine interest in progressing your career within practice
- A full driving licence
What's on offer
This is a particularly good time to join, with the accountancy firm investing in its future and operating with clear growth ambitions. The role offers the chance to develop with the business rather than simply step into an established position.
The package includes:
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Hybrid working
- Flexi-time to support a healthy work-life balance
- Free on-site parking
- Ongoing professional development
- Increasing responsibility and progression opportunities as the firm grows
The accountancy practice is looking for someone ambitious, commercially minded and keen to be part of its next stage of development. If you want a role that combines accounts, audit, client contact and progression within a firm with strong growth plans, this could be an excellent next step.
