I'm working a large, reputable practice who are looking for a Private Client Tax Assistant Manager to join their growing Private Client Tax team. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to take the next step in their career, with responsibility across client management, technical tax, advisory, workflow management and team development.
Job Title: Private Client Tax Assistant Manager
Location: Cambridge, hybrid working model + flexitime
Salary: Β£45,000 - Β£55,000 + benefits package
Role Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of a portfolio of Private Client Tax clients, including clients with more complex requirements
- Build strong, long-term relationships and develop a detailed understanding of your clients' circumstances, challenges and risks
- Manage client expectations around deadlines, deliverables and changes in scope
- Attend pre-year-end and completion meetings where appropriate
- Support fee discussions and develop proposals/pricing for non-complex work
- Review personal tax returns prepared by Seniors and ensure work is technically accurate and compliant
- Manage the full compliance cycle for your portfolio
- Prepare technical advice on more complex tax matters for review by Managers, Directors or Partners
- Carry out research into complex areas of UK tax legislation and use your technical knowledge to support colleagues and clients
- Keep up to date with changes in tax legislation and professional standardsLine manage and support junior members of the team
- Conduct performance reviews and help colleagues develop practical action plans from feedback
- Get involved in interviewing and selecting new junior team members
- Lead, motivate and coach colleagues to help them perform at their best
- Identify changes to scope early and ensure additional work is appropriately recognised and priced
- Monitor WIP and raise draft fees for approval based on work completed
- Contribute to bids, pricing proposals and wider business development activity
Ideally, you'll have:
- CTA / ACA / ACCA / CA or equivalent qualification
- Previous Private Client Tax, Personal Tax or Mixed Tax experience within an accountancy practice
- Strong knowledge of UK personal tax and confidence dealing with more complex technical areas
- Experience with areas such as P11Ds, IHT and personal tax compliance
- The ability to research and interpret complex tax legislation
- Experience reviewing tax returns and/or supervising junior colleagues
- Strong client relationship and communication skills
- A commercial mindset and the confidence to identify opportunities for additional work
- The ability to take ownership rather than waiting for someone else to find the solution
