An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a growing specialist tax practice as a Tax Disputes Resolution Specialist.
The role will focus on helping individuals and businesses navigate complex tax disputes with HMRC, providing practical, commercially focused advice across enquiries, disclosures, appeals, litigation and alternative dispute resolution.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, working directly with clients and playing a key role in the continued development of a growing tax disputes offering.
The Role
You will manage a varied portfolio of clients and complex tax disputes, working closely with experienced colleagues and senior stakeholders to deliver the best possible outcomes.
Key responsibilities will include
- Managing a portfolio of complex HMRC tax disputes and enquiries.
- Advising clients on their position and developing strategies to resolve disputes effectively.
- Reviewing supporting documentation and responding to HMRC challenges, information requests and enquiries.
- Supporting clients through HMRC investigations, disclosures, assessments and penalties.
- Representing clients in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), mediation and appeals.
- Supporting Tribunal preparation and wider tax litigation matters.
- Building strong, trusted relationships with clients through clear and commercially focused advice.
- Identifying opportunities to support existing clients and contribute to business development.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the wider business to deliver joined-up solutions.
- Supporting and developing junior team members through coaching, knowledge sharing and reviewing work.
- Contributing ideas to improve the firm's tax disputes offering and client experience.
About You
We're looking for a commercially minded tax disputes professional who is comfortable dealing with complex matters and working directly with clients.
You will ideally have
- ATT or CTA qualification with strong corporate tax advisory experience, or be a qualified disputes/litigation lawyer with relevant tax investigations experience.
- Proven experience working with HMRC.
- Strong experience managing complex tax disputes and investigations.
- A good understanding of HMRC powers and procedures, including enquiries, information requests, assessments, appeals, penalties and disclosures.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent organisational and project-management abilities.
- A practical, advisory-led and solution-focused approach.
- Commercial awareness and an interest in developing client relationships.
- The ability to manage multiple complex matters and deadlines simultaneously.
