Accounts and Tax Manager
Β£60,000 - Β£65,000 + benefits | Full-time | North London
If you're an experienced practice accountant looking for a role where you can take real ownership of your clients, provide meaningful commercial advice and work closely with Partners, this could be an excellent opportunity to join a growing accountancy practice with a genuinely personal approach.
We're working with a well-established independent firm that has built its reputation over many years by putting client relationships at the centre of everything it does. Despite its continued growth, the practice has retained a personal, accessible culture where clients receive direct access to senior professionals and advice is focused on making a tangible difference to their businesses.
The Opportunity
As an Accounts and Tax Manager, you'll manage your own portfolio of clients across accounts, tax and advisory work. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being close to their clients and wants to move beyond simply completing compliance work.
You'll work with a varied range of owner-managed businesses and SMEs, taking responsibility for delivering accounts and tax assignments while developing a strong understanding of each client's commercial objectives.
There is also plenty of opportunity to get involved in management accounts, business planning and wider commercial discussions, including working alongside Partners on client matters where your insight can add value.
Importantly, this is not a staff management role. The focus is on client ownership, technical delivery and building trusted relationships rather than managing a team.
What you'll be doing
- Managing a portfolio of SME and owner-managed business clients
- Taking responsibility for year-end accounts preparation and review
- Preparing and reviewing corporation tax and personal tax returns
- Managing VAT, bookkeeping and management accounts assignments where required
- Acting as a key point of contact for your clients
- Building long-term relationships and understanding the commercial drivers behind their businesses
- Providing practical advice rather than simply delivering compliance services
- Assisting clients with budgeting, forecasting and financial planning
- Reviewing management information and identifying areas where clients could improve performance
- Attending client meetings and contributing to wider business discussions
- Working closely with Partners on advisory opportunities and client development
- Liaising with HMRC and other professional advisers as required
- Identifying opportunities to introduce clients to relevant external professional contacts where appropriate
What we're looking for
We're looking for a qualified or highly experienced practice accountant who enjoys having ownership of their own clients and developing relationships based on trust.
You'll ideally have:
- ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification
- Strong experience within a UK accountancy practice
- Experience managing a portfolio of SME and owner-managed clients
- Good technical knowledge across accounts and taxation
- Experience preparing and reviewing statutory accounts and tax returns
- Confidence dealing directly with business owners and senior stakeholders
- Strong commercial awareness and an interest in advisory work
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- The ability to work independently and take responsibility for your portfolio
- A proactive, personable approach to client service
Why consider it?
The accountancy firm has a long-standing reputation for being genuinely available to its clients, acting quickly and providing advice that is practical, commercial and timely.
You'll be joining a business where relationships matter. Clients have direct access to Partners, managers and experienced senior staff, and the firm takes pride in understanding the businesses behind the numbers.
For the right person, this offers the opportunity to become a genuine trusted adviser to your portfolio rather than simply another point of contact for compliance work. You'll have the freedom to develop client relationships, contribute your own ideas and get involved in commercial conversations that can make a real difference.
The practice is continuing to grow, but without losing the personal approach that has driven its reputation and referrals. It's a particularly good environment for someone who values autonomy, client contact and high-quality professional relationships.
If you're looking for an Accounts and Tax Manager role where you can take ownership of your clients, develop the advisory side of your career and work within a close-knit growing practice, get in touch for a confidential conversation.
