I'm working with a highly regarded UK accountancy and advisory firm that is continuing to strengthen its specialist tax offering and is looking to appoint an experienced Tax Investigations Manager. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to move beyond routine compliance and take ownership of complex, high-value HMRC investigations and tax disputes.
The Role
- You'll manage your own portfolio of investigations, working closely with clients, HMRC and senior members of the tax team.
- Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing complex HMRC enquiries and investigations
- Handling COP8, COP9 and WDF matters
- Advising individuals, owner-managed businesses and corporate clients
- Managing voluntary disclosures and settlement negotiations
- Preparing technical submissions and responses to HMRC
- Working directly with HMRC case officers
- Identifying technical and commercial risks for clients
- Supporting more junior members of the team
- Developing strong, long-term client relationships
What We're Looking For
- You'll ideally have:
- Strong experience within Tax Investigations / Tax Disputes
- Proven experience managing HMRC enquiries independently
- COP8 and/or COP9 experience
- Strong technical knowledge across personal and/or business taxation
- Excellent client-facing and communication skills
- Experience negotiating with HMRC
- Practice experience within an accountancy, advisory or specialist tax environment
- Ex-HMRC experience would be advantageous but isn't essential.
- CTA or another relevant professional qualification is desirable.
